Integrative Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Treating

Integrative Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Treating the Painful Experience
DATE:
Tuesday, June 21, 2022
TIME:  2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (Pacific)

Traditionally, treating chronic pain is focused on the physiologic experience, the physical pain, with medications like opioids.  Often, this leads to chronic opioid therapy which comes with many risks.  Approaching the painful experience from a behavioral health perspective provides for more balanced treatment plans that help to minimize the risks of dependency and/or addiction.  Cognitive Behavioral therapies can provide additional support for the patient experiencing pain and the medical team trying to contain it.  This training will review the role of CBT for the painful experience in a clinical setting and how to work collaboratively with primary care by addressing a patient’s expectations, goals and suffering.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Strategies and techniques for addressing pain and suffering in the context of behavioral therapy;
  • Integrated care approaches that include the patient, primary care and behavioral health clinicians, to identify and address a patient’s goals and expectations;
  • Documentation and case conferencing strategies that assure clinical team members are working together.
