The term Community Health Center (CHC) includes Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), FQHC Look-Alikes, Migrant Health Centers, Rural and Frontier Health Centers, and Free Clinics. CHCs are an essential segment of the safety-net. In many California counties, they provide a significant proportion of comprehensive primary care services to those who are publicly subsidized or uninsured.

Examples of available data:

Uniform Data Systems (UDS)
The Uniform Data System (UDS) is an annual reporting system used by U.S. federally-funded health centers to report data on utilization, patient demographics, insurance status, managed care, prenatal care and birth outcomes, diagnoses, and financing. UDS assists with program management, policy development and overall accounting for the programs. It is maintained by the Bureau of Primary Health Care Office of Data, Evaluation, Analysis and Research.

Health Care Access and Information (HCAI)
The California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) is an annual reporting system used by California community health centers and clinics to report data on community services, clinic staffing, and patient and staff language data, and financing. CPCA conducts a yearly audit of the HCAI data set to represent primary care and community clinics. This audited data set includes a selection of clinics that emphasize the provision of general medical, dental, family planning and maternal and child health services. To be included in the CPCA HCAI data, a clinic must identify at least 15% of its services as medical or dental or be part of a larger organization that does. Please note that the public has access to all HCAI data, however, CPCA’s data has been audited using the criteria listed above.
